Spotify is great for exposure to a worldwide audience. It’s not great as an income source or true fan building.
Release singles to the digital world, then drive new listeners back to a self-branded website to find out who they(fans) are.

I originally had this idea about 4 years ago. Ideas are worth exactly zero until you act on them.
Kickstarter + Booking Agent + Promoter = Gigable
Pre-funded gigs where you can hand-pick the venue. I’ve got a test case in the works. Check back soon.
I’m a big fan of Kickstarter and Pledgemusic – really the whole fan-funded model. I’ve backed several projects, such as Mike Doughty’s new album where he is recording a new take on Soul Coughing songs.
So I just backed Zach Braff’s project to film a new movie called “Wish I Was Here.” His intro video was pretty hilarious and had some great cameos. The list of backer swag is very cool – you can even pledge your way into the cast ($10k). Although, I doubt that investment would get you a career in making movies, but it’s very cool!
